Thor...The Thundergod descends to the big screen

We heard hype...We wondered by the choice of director(pleasantly surprised)...We have seen the impressive trailers and "enjoyed" the huge marketing...But does this movie live up to its hype..?

Well the short answer would be that it is not perfect but it was pretty entertaining. The cast was very good. The choice for Thor(Chris Hemsworth) and Odin(Anthony Hopkins) was amazing and support cast was great (mostly). Finally we have a movie with a story arc for the main character and one that makes its universe, especially Asgard, very beautiful and really believable. The antagonist in the first 2 acts of the film was really well written and quite well established. Loki actually had a plan and seem to know how to do it correctly. Some humor was present, sometimes it worked sometimes not(just ignore the Darcy Lewis character it is better for your nerves ), but it was controlled enough to actually play its role without making the movie look silly.  Kenneth Branagh's Shakespearian roots came out in the Asgard and Jotunheim scenes were you could see the theatrical feel and the grandeur of the 2 reamls and  it really works so well.Definitely these were my favorite parts of the movie. In the first part until Thor ends up in Earth, seeing Thor kick ass using his power was so satisfying. Epic, grand and different. The movie there actually managed to immerse you into it completely. Too bad it did not make me feel like that afterwards.

What I did not like about the movie was the fact that it was a little bit imbalanced between acts. After the epicness of the first part when the plot came to earth the change seemed to me a little abrupt. Do not misunderstand me these are fine bits.   Unlike many superhero blockbusters that tent to forget to have  at least some kind of plot in them,  the writers here actually gave a dime to have story arcs and character development and some nice bits about Thor coping with the human world. And they incorporated the SHIELD/Avengers plot point well in the story without it being distracting for the main plot.   But it is all very basic. The plot and characters are there, but they are very simple. If is was to make a good transition from Asgard to Earth, the movie needed a bit more well written stuff on Earth. And the climax of the movie was a little disappointing. The build up was great and tense but in the final battle the tension was not really there. You find yourself expecting more. Loki was being build up as this powerful sorcerer and extremely intelligent but in the end battle he was not really that menacing. You immediately felt that Thor with his hammer was practically unbeatable. The end suffers a little bit because of that...

As a whole this movie is not perfect but is was a good watch and I really eagerly expect to see the character again in the Avengers and the sequel to Thor.

PS.Don't leave the theater before the credits end. It is a Marvel movie....
