Black Country Communion...A real Supergroup?

The group was born in the King of the Blues event in November 2009 where Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa played together. After that they decided that it would be a good idea and to record together. Well it ended up being a great idea! Soon after they were joined by Jason Bonham (John Bonham's son if you live under a rock and have no idea) and former Dream Theater Keyboardist Derek Sherinian and Black Country Communion was created. They begun recording in January 2010, according to Hughes. The result...Their first album in September 2010 "Black Country".

In my personal opinion the album is unbelievable. I was used to Hughes and Bonamassa  making good(Great actually) Melodic Hard Rock and Blues albums respectively. But this is a classic Rock title. Hell a classic heavy Rock title in 2010 from people that created some of my favorite albums the past decade. This should not be a failure. It ought not to be...And it wasn't...OMG it wasn't. Realistically Black County was one of the best albums I listened to in recent tears. Exactly what one would expect from such a group. From the speedy heavy rock anthem that share its name with the album and band to the slower "Song of Yesterday" to the lengthy and flawlessly performed "Too Late for the Sun" this record is just a joy to listen to...Hughes base and voice as good as always and Bonamassa Guitars just elevate the songs immensely, although Bonamassa could be a little more original than he is here.

The only real problem I could have is that the band does not take advantage of the other 2 members who are excellent musicians. They are great and really complete the songs through their great playing but there is no song that is heavy on keyboard or drums. I would like especially to see Jason Bonham perform something difficult that is not just Led Zeppelin Covers. What the real surprise though was the "Medusa" cover. One of my favorite songs coming from Hughes' Trapeze Era. God I love this song and I loved this cover with Bonamassa's guitar. Just excellent.....

The band is already recording their second album and plan to release it in June 2011 just before their first tour.A tour that is not big but include gigs in great festivals like Bospop and High Voltage. I feel very lucky that such a band exists and I just hope they continue making music as long as they can.....
